In an ongoing discussion of salary disparity between the NBA and the WNBA, Paige Bueckers is caught in the attention crossfire.
The new Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) Rules allow college athletes to make a profit after years of not financially profiting from their success. Many athletes are taking advantage of these new rules, including Bueckers.
Bueckers is sitting on multiple NIL deals that will allow her to make more than the base salary of Rhyne Howard, No. 1 pick in last year's WNBA draft. Bueckers became the first college athlete to sign with Gatorade as a result of the NIL rules.
While the decision to go pro is simple for many male players, there is a trend of female athletes weighing their decision more heavily due to the profitability in NCAA play.
